Family immigration in Finland
Family immigration (based on family ties) allows you to join your family member who already has a Finnish residence permit. Eligible applicants include spouses, partners, children, and guardians. Who can apply
Only specific family members are eligible to apply for a residence permit based on family ties under Finnish immigration law. These include spouses or partners, minor children, guardians of minor children, and in some cases, other dependent family members as defined by the law.
Child
Underage biological or adopted children who live in the same household with their parent(s) are eligible to apply for a residence permit based on family ties.
Spouse
Legally registered spouses, including partners in same-gender registered partnerships, can apply for a residence permit based on family ties.
Registered partners
Civil partners who have lived together with the sponsor in the same household for more than two years are eligible to apply for a residence permit based on family ties.

All required documents must be translated into English or Finnish. Below is an expanded list of essential documents applicants should prepare before applying for a residence permit based on family ties in Finland.
You must also have valid passports and recent passport-size photos (not older than 6 months). In some cases, the Finnish Immigration Service may request additional documents for clarification, so it is important to prepare as fully as possible.

Limitations
Unfortunately, a residence permit based on family ties cannot be applied for by parents, adult siblings, or other relatives not listed in the eligible categories. Only the specified family members are permitted under Finnish immigration law.
